Revamping a Printing Software’s Design System
Building a SAAS design library for a Canadian printing company’s interface
The Challenge
The challenge with ThreeTrees’s ask was to create a rigid design system to be used by their internal team. As the Canadian company was preparing Big Fish ERP — a platform tailored for small to medium print shops, their team needed a well documented menu of components and style guides to implement onto their software.
Our Approach
We began with an audit of their previous platform to determine pain points and map out existing components. Through the Atomic Design Method, we broke down the platform from atoms and molecules (i.e. text styles and button components) to full mocked up pages using these components to illustrate proper usage.
Because this process was limited the design system, we ensured thorough documentation throughout each element and component to ensure defined rules of usage even for an external design or development team.
